NIGHT distribution timeline
NIGHT distribution proceeds through claim, thawing, and redemption periods.
The statuses below were confirmed on September 2, 2026. Timelines and conditions may change, so check the latest information in the NIGHT Claim Portal before taking action.
1. Glacier Drop
Claim phase 1 | Closed | 76 days
The first phase allowed eligible holders of assets on supported blockchains to claim a NIGHT allocation. Unclaimed tokens carried over to the next phase.
A successful claim did not make the entire allocation immediately redeemable. Allocated NIGHT unlocks progressively during the Thawing & Redemption Period.
2. Scavenger Mine
Claim phase 2 | Closed | 21 days
This phase allowed participants to claim a share of some tokens left unclaimed during Glacier Drop by completing computational tasks. NIGHT claimed in this phase is also subject to thawing.
3. Thawing & Redemption Period
Thawing and redemption | Live | 450 days
NIGHT allocated through Glacier Drop and Scavenger Mine thaws in four equal 25% installments over 360 days.
- The first thaw date is assigned within the first 1–90 days.
- The remaining installments thaw every 90 days.
- Each thawed installment can be redeemed separately, or all installments can be redeemed together after the full allocation has thawed.
- Each redemption requires a Cardano transaction and its associated network fee.
The 360-day thawing schedule is followed by a 90-day grace period, making the full period 450 days.

4. Lost-and-Found
Claim phase 3 | Planned | 4 years
After the Midnight mainnet launches, this phase is intended to give original Glacier Drop-eligible participants who did not claim during the initial claim period another opportunity to claim part of their original allocation.
Participants will need to interact with the relevant Midnight network smart contract themselves. Tokens left unclaimed after the four-year period are expected to be reallocated to the on-chain Treasury.
5. NIGHT Claim Portal sunsetting
The NIGHT Claim Portal is expected to cease operation after the 90-day grace period that follows the Thawing & Redemption Period.
Anyone who has not redeemed their NIGHT by then will need to interact with the relevant smart contracts on the Cardano network themselves. If using the Portal, confirm the redemption status before it closes.
